Smet Breaks Ground on City Deck Landing in Downtown Green Bay!

The weather outside was frightful!…  But that didn’t stop many interested people along with Green Bay East High School’s band from braving the elements to participate in the ground-breaking of Green Bay’s first downtown apartment project in over two decades.  Although the crowd shivered, bundled up in their warm winter coats, hats, gloves and scarves,  there were plenty of smiles and cheer to go around.
The 76-unit project is located on a downtown Green Bay iconic corner and will be known as CityDeck Landing. It will have one and two bedroom apartments, many facing the Fox River with water views, and others with urban views facing the new $45 million Schreiber Building, the new KI Convention Center addition and Titletown Brewing Company. The project offers modern architecture with a nod to the historic nature of the district sporting several colors of brick, metal detailing on balconies and architectural stone accents. The first floor consists of 7,000 square feet of retail space along with green space facing the Fox River.
The CityDeck Landing development is led by Madison based developer Terrance Wall of  T. Wall Properties.  Smet is the construction manager for the project.  Wall welcomed those gathered for the event and expressed his appreciation to the city of Green Bay for their commitment in making the project happen.   Congressman Reid Ribble also spoke and remarked that Green Bay has more energy and more projects happening than many other places. Smet’s co-owner and CEO, Scott Smet, expressed excitement about the project and indicated that with the number of downtown projects underway 2014 is shaping up to be a big year in downtown Green Bay.   Smet thanked Jamie Blom, a member of Sme’t’s business development team, for devoting his 2012 New Year’s Day holiday to work with Neil White of the city’s economic development department on potential sites and settling on the current location.
Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt said the project represents “a critical piece of quality residential living in an urban atmosphere”. Schmitt also said the city has “a lot going on” with dedicated economic development personnel who meet every Wednesday to discuss their projects. “We believe in what we are doing, and we try to get it done when we work on these types of projects”, Schmitt concluded. Jeff Mirkes, Executive Director of Downtown Green Bay, Inc., a local group dedicated to downtown redevelopment said, “It’s Awesome! We’re thrilled to see this project get underway. Talk about a mix of activities.  Residential is a big part of what’s happening downtown. This site in particular has stunning views in three directions and is a quick walk to two farmer’s markets and downtown restaurants”.
Lastly, one of our very capable Smet project site managers, Carl Shefchik, said, “It’s exciting to be involved  and great to be downtown. I’m looking forward to working on this project.”  The apartment project has an anticipated completion date of March 2015.
