The Greater Green Bay Chamber held its annual manufacturing awards dinner this past Tuesday evening recognizing those businesses contributing to growth in northeast Wisconsin. The manufacturing sector represents over 17% of Wisconsin’s workforce with more than 9,500 manufacturers employing over 450,000 workers. In northeast Wisconsin, the sector is even more important as 25% of our regional workforce is employed in manufacturing.
Smet Construction Services Corp. cut its teeth erecting buildings that serve the manufacturing sector and because of our experience we are a proud sponsor of this annual Chamber recognition dinner that honors outstanding manufacturers for their contribution to our economy. Over a 16 year period, 70 companies have been recognized for their growth and contributions. Awards are based on company size, length of time in business, recent growth, the use of cutting edge technology and exporting.
This year, the award for a business with fewer than 100 employees went to Seura, a company that makes custom televisions embedded in pictures and mirrors, often for outdoor use. Seura expanded their east Green Bay facility to meet their growing market share.
The award to a medium-sized company went to Bay Tek Games, for their use of technology in the manufacturing of coin-operated games and ticket redemption products in the amusement industry. Bay Tek also expanded its operations and operate out of a 55,000 SF facility in the Pulaski area.
Lastly, the Manufacturing Award of Distinction for a large company having over 300 employees went to LaForce, Inc. of Green Bay. LaForce manufactures building products and hardware that serves the building industry with doors, access control, and security products. It has opened eight locations throughout the United States.
Smet is proud to be among the sponsors of this event. We are proud of our affiliation in the manufacturing sector that is so important to our local and regional economies.
